Dr. Mahapatra has made important contributions to the theoretical understanding of nonadiabatic chemical reaction dynamics both in bimolecular collisions and in unimolecular reactions. The aim of the research project at the Technical University of Munich and the University of Heidelberg is a first-principles investigation of the photochemistry of the allyl radiacal that plays a central role in many organic reactions.
